What is the difference between Botox® and Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® work by relaxing the muscles under the surface of the skin, allowing the skin to smooth out, making lines less visible. While Botox® is considered the gold standard in these types of treatments, Dysport® is growing in popularity. The two products are both made from the same neurotoxin, but the proteins that deliver the serum are different, which means that some people react more favorably to one treatment than the other.

Both treatments are FDA-approved. Anecdotal evidence indicates that Dysport® injections show positive results within one to two days time, whereas Botox® can take up to five days to show results.

While Dysport® may be faster, others contend that Botox® lasts longer. At Couture Med Spa, our members can get both Botox® and Dysport® at $7.97 per unit year-round.

FAQs

Who will inject my Botox treatment?
At Couture Med Spa, your BOTOX® Cosmetic and/or Dysport treatment will be administered by an advanced trained and licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Injections of Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport are quick, comfortable and performed with no down time in the comfort of our luxurious Med Spa setting.
Does it hurt to get injected with Botox?
Most people find the injections almost painless, so a local anesthetic is not normally needed. If concerned however, you can request an anesthetic (numbing) cream prior to treatment.

The treatment session typically lasts less than five minutes with full effect taking several days as the muscles gradually relax.
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you appear as if you’ve “had work done.” Our trained providers will work with your goals to ensure a natural, youthful appearance.
How long does it take to see the effects? How long does it last?
BOTOX® Cosmetic can take seven to ten days for treatment to set in, and visible results have been shown to last up to four months. Personal results will vary, so speak with your healthcare provider about what to expect and when to schedule your next appointment. Dysport has a quicker onset, and results can be seen as soon as 24-48 hours. This may be better suited for patients that need a more immediate outcome, although length of results are approximately the same for Dysport and BOTOX® Cosmetic. Both Botox and Dysport will last up to four months.
